The Strong Museum & Neighborhood of Play
Architects: CJS
Engineers: ME Engineering
Developer: Konar Development
Construction: Le Chase
Located in Rochester NY, the mission of the Strong Museum of Play is collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history of play. When embarking on their third expansion, they called upon CJS Architects. They, along with Konar Properties and Indus Hospitality Group have created The Strong Neighborhood of Play—a world-class destination that is inclusive, connected, fun and walkable.
The project entailed a new museum wing with interactive displays, 201 units of rental housing, mixed-used retail spaces, a 125-room brand hotel, a playful 1000-car parking garage and new two-way streets that were formerly a six-lane sunken highway. The neighborhood is now a pedestrian and family-friendly destination in downtown Rochester NY, attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists every year.
This expansive project required a three-day photoshoot incorporating models and drone photography.
